Be a Risk Taker in a Yellow Gingham Dress

Would you be surprised if I told you that I am a risk taker? Initially, I may come across as organized, type A, and maybe even a perfectionist. Although, I would agree that I enjoy cleanliness and organization, I am not bound to it’s hold. And I am actually not a perfectionist; however, I am an idealist. How is that any different or better you might ask? Well my husband will tell you that it is his least and most favorite trait about me. I definitely strive to become the best version of myself. So I will make decisions that will get me as close as I can to that goal. But I also realize that perfection is something that I will never achieve.

It is through taking risks that I have made some of the best decisions of my life. Let me give you a few examples. I have moved across country twice with my husband knowing absolutely NO ONE in both locations simply because we believed it would create a better quality of life for us. I jumped into marriage and had children younger than the average gal (I was married at 21 and had my baby at 25). And I have pursued many passions that were not always the most “secure” career choice.

But the truth is that many of my “risks” had been given much thought and deliberation prior to the event. I didn’t just marry anyone hoping for the best. I married a good man who I could see a long time future with. Sure we were young, but I knew in my heart he was the one. Sure getting married at 21 might have been a financial risk, but it was worth it. And living in Las Vegas brought us so much fun and adventure and is a chapter in our life that I will always remember.

I think the reason my appearance and style has changed so much over the years is because of this “risk” taking mentality. I have changed my hair, makeup looks, and style because WHY NOT?! I think so many of us waste so much of our metal capacity by worrying about how others will react to us. But at the end of the day, it is your happiness that counts. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. It is about CREATING yourself.”  And I have to say that creating myself has been such an adventurous journey.

I encourage you to be a risk taker. Even if it is by wearing a color that you would usually shy away from, or putting on a little more makeup than usually. Play around with your look. The thing is, makeup and clothes can be removed. You are not bound by them. So have a little fun, and the worst case scenario is that you decide to forgo the look in your future. Life is too short my darling not to take risks. Of course use your precious brain to make the best decision that you can. But then jump into the water full force knowing you are making the best judgement you can with what you have been given. You got this girl, go get ’em!
