How to Dress Feminine

If you haven’t noticed by now, I could live in dresses. I feel the most “me” when I am wearing this clothing piece. Whether it is a free flowing fabric, structured silhouette, or a classic A-line, there is a dress for every occasion. I actually tried on a pair of shorts the other day for the first time in I can’t even remember how long, and I instantly hated them. No thank you! Although in the Texas heat, I may need to reconsider.

Although dresses are the embodiment of feminine dressing, it isn’t the only solution. If you like to feel romantic and elegant in your clothing styles as I do, follow these tips to help you nail the feminine look.

conservative but stylish dress

1. Opt for a Soft Color Palette

Although jewel tones look fantastic on many, it doesn’t particularly scream girly. Soft colors like pale pinks, sky blues, pastel yellows, lavender purples, and olive greens will give you a more romantic feel.

2. Floral Prints are Your New Favorite

Flowers are the epitome of romance. There is a reason we give them for so many celebrations and occasions. Yes, they can be so overdone, but they are also so beautiful and happy. I prefer smaller scale florals as opposed to large designs.

3. This Heels Were Made for Stomping

Find a way to get comfortable wearing heels. You don’t have to strut around in them daily, even I gave that up after having my baby Oliver. But you should dust them off and bring them out for show more often! So much of time we feel we need a particular reason to dress up. But the world is your oyster. You don’t need a reason.

4. Pick Flowy over Structured

Billowy blouses, whimsical skirts, and wind catching dresses scream effortlessly feminine. If you really are not a dress girl, go for frilly tops with lots of lace, ruffles, and bows. The more tailored an item is the more serious it seems. Save the structured items for a more menswear inspired look.

5. Channel Your Favorite Hollywood Muse

The 1950s are a huge source of inspiration for me when it comes to fashion. I adore those Old Hollywood iconic stars like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and even Marilyn Monroe. They knew how to dress like a woman. They set the stage (literally) for styles we still carry with us today. Thank you Audrey for the ballet flats. Or Marilyn for the cat eye. Find your source of inspiration and drink from the fountain of fashion energy on the daily.

Sometimes I think we all can over think fashion. I do it all the time. But what really matters is how an item makes you feel on the inside. If wearing that piece makes you feel closer to that woman inside of you that is dying to come out. Get it. You can start getting a little closer to that better version of you simply by picking what she would wear. And that she is you.

She is bright and beautiful and strong. I am she. You are she. We are she. Be the she you want to be.
