We come in many beautiful shapes and sizes. Finding that perfect item can bring a unique set of challenges depending on your God given frame. There are particular pieces that we tend to write off in fashion as we think they don’t suit us or “look good” on us. As a petite lady, I was once so afraid to wear a maxi dress. I was under the impression that they would overwhelm my small frame. And although that could be true, it isn’t the entire picture. Petite ladies, as well as all body types, can wear this classic style! Today, I wanted to share a few simple tips that will help you choose the perfect maxi dress for your shape.

Petite Ladies

A length that hits the ankles is the most flattering. If it runs a little long, pair it with a heel or wedge. Smaller prints are less likely to overwhelm your frame, but don’t make this a rule. Show a little skin! The more skin you show, the more it will elongate your frame. The print on this Gal Meets Glam dress is larger but the tie details draw the attention up and the wedges add the extra length.

Pear Shaped Ladies

Look for a maxi dress that has detailing at the top. Ruffles, ties, and cinched waists will draw the eye upward and take the focus away from the lower half of the body. Two toned maxi dresses that have a darker bottom and lighter top would be flattering as well.

Straight/ Athletic Shaped Ladies

Straight styles or even flowey styles are good options for the boyish shape. Do not try to make a natural waist with cinched silhouettes. Empire waists are better for this shape. Add fun detailing like ruffles to add more shape and body. Have fun with print. If you are slim you do not need to worry about certain prints overwhelming you.

Curvy Ladies

Look for a style that emphasizes your waist or accentuates the features that you like about your body. Fit and flare styles and wrap dresses are a good option to avoid drawing attention to the tummy area and showcasing the smallest part of your body. If you have larger breasts, avoid higher necklines and opt for a scoop or v neck style. Keep the style more simple, avoid lots of ruffle and pleating details.
