There is something about dressing for a fall special occasion that stops us dead in our tracks. We forget everything we thought we knew and find ourselves frantically online shopping way into the late hours of the night and even stopping by our favorite department stores after work, eating a granola bar as our dinner that has probably been sitting in our purse for about 3 years.
By now we have gotten the memo on how to dress for our spring and summer weddings. We know our safe bets like pretty pastels, floral prints, and romantic lacy numbers. But the second the month of August comes to an end and we receive an invitation to a fall wedding or another dressier special occasion, we get completely stumped. And I totally get it! So that is why today I am breaking down the best way to dress for your occasions during this new season!
I think the biggest reason we get stuck is because of the inconsistency in the weather. It might be an October wedding, but the weather is still as blazing hot as the summer. Or it could be the beginning of September and you already need your leather jacket. Depending on where you live, it could fluctuate completely. So here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for your occasion outfit during the next few months.
1. Choose Fall Color Schemes
During the middle of September, I really recommend gravitating toward more fall appropirate colors. Even if you are planning on wearing a short dress, and the weather forecast is as hot as a summer day, I think going for more fall colors will make you look on top of your game and fashion forward.
2. Have Fun with Trendy Prints
It is always such a fun little game to discover what prints are hot for the season. Wedding guest or special occasion dresses are the perfect opportunity to have some fun and go a little more trendy and bold in your fabric print. Stripes are big this season so you can see this dress has a slight stripe detailing on it as well.
3. Ditch Your Summer Accessories
Definitely do not sport that popular straw handbag you carried all summer to your fall event. Even if it is still hot, it doesn’t go with the vibe. Accessories are another great way to incorporate fashion forward concepts of the season.
