“Oh that grace, oh that body
Oh that face makes me wanna party
He’s my sun, he makes me shine like diamonds…” Lana Del Rey Young and Beautiful Lyrics

So today I have a fun themed date night and makeup look for you guys. A few weeks ago, my husband and I wanted to spice things up and have a themed date night at home. We decided on a Great Gatsby night with dress up, dinner, and a movie. We went all out! The best part is my husband cooked while I got ready!

Inspired by the era, I went full smokey eye and red lip. In those days, the women loved to smoke out their eyes with shimmery but dark colors. And those luxurious lips were often a deep shade of red. In today’s time, we would encourage you to chose between the eyes and the lips as the main feature in your makeup look. It is normally discouraged to play up both. But in the 1920s, these girls went all out!

For the eyes, I used the Naked 2 palette. I used the color tease in my crease. snakebite all over my lids. Then I took YDK and built that on the outer half of my lids. Then I darkened the outer v of my eye with busted.  From there, I highlighted my inner corners and brow bone with bootycall. Finally I added some gel liner and threw on some false lashes by Ardell called Demi Wispies Black.

The lips are a color by Lipstick Queen called Wine, which is a matte lipstick with a lot of color payoff. The only down side to this lipstick is that it is a bit drying. So, you will definitely need some chapestick before you apply it.

On the face, I have my Marc Jacobs foundation on (I can’t remember what color), mac prolongwear concealer in shades NW 20/NW 25. I like to mix the shades to get the perfect under eye brightness. I am wearing NARS laguna bronzer, NARS albatross highlighter (beautiful golden color),  and NARS deep throat blush.

Now onto the date! My husband decided to set up the basement with a romantic setting. This included candles, mood lighting, a bottle of wine, and of course 1920s music playing in the background. During the course of the dinner we decided to act in character. Call us weird, but it was tons of fun! We created our our historical backgrounds and talked throughout our dinner as if we were currently living in the era. Of course I was a flapper and he worked for the mob. After dinner, we turned on The Great Gatsby and cuddled up to enjoy the movie.  Originally, we were going to go dancing after the movie, but we ended up calling it night.

This look would also be great for an upcoming Halloween party. The dress is from Cache and was stashed away in my closet from a previous Ball. I have seen these types of dresses everywhere though for the Halloween season. This website is great for all sorts of flapper inspired dresses!
