The Holidays are filled with many temptations. Christmas cookies, festive cocktails, and Holiday dinners are around every corner, and it can be difficult to stay on track. For some strange reason, I find myself to be more motivated to eat healthy during this time of year. Where as during the Summer months, I am more likely to slack off. You would think it would be the opposite since you don’t have to walk around in a bathing suit in the middle of Winter!
I think the reason I up my fitness routine during this time of year is because it is fabulous running weather. Because let’s be honest, I am not too excited about going for a jog mid Summer in 115 degree heat! When you make the decision to make working out a priority again, eating healthy goes hand in hand. I am no fitness expert, and I definitely am no workout feen. But today I thought I would share with you the things that I like to do to stay healthy this time of year.
1. Move Your Body
Working out doesn’t need to be a huge ordeal. Simply going on a long walk can do amazing things for your health. Thankfully my job gives me the opportunity to move constantly. When you have 22 little first graders to keep track of, you are always on the move. Try to move as much as possible throughout the day. Park far away, walk around the office, do whatever you can to move as much as possible.
2. Find a Workout Routine You Love
This Summer I was addicted to spin class. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. Unfortunately, it is too far away from work for me to do in now. I just recently I picked up running again. I like to run at a beautiful trail, so I have plenty to look at. Whether it is Zumba class, Yoga, or P90X, experiment and find a routine that suits you and your lifestyle.
3. Pick Up Some Cute Workout Gear
Is it just me or do you feel more motivated to workout when you have a cute workout gear? ZAFUL sent me this adorable letter hoodie and spliced leggings and I am obsessed with it. When you feel cute in your workout clothes, it can totally motivate you to get moving!
4. Keep a Food Diary
I recently started keeping a food diary, and you would be surprised how many little mistakes you make throughout the day. Those little mistakes can add up and be the culprit of weight loss slumps. Last year, I cut out dairy and I have loved the results of keeping it out of my diet.
5. Get a Bubba Mug!
This mug has change my water intake dramatically! I am obsessed with it! I got it in the 48oz size and I have been drinking at least two a day. So that is almost 100oz of water! My headaches have gone away and I feel so much fresher and more alert. They say dramatically increasing your water intake can help with weight loss. Try it!
6. Bring Your Own Snacks
I found that I was getting tempted a lot at work. Coworkers would bring in goodies and I would indulge because I was hungry. I started bringing my own snacks and even buying healthy options to leave at work, and it has cut down the temptation a lot. I love having nut mixes or the Health Warrior Chia Bar on hand for those moments of weakness.
Those are just a few things that help me keep on track this time of year. Let me know if you would like to see more nutrition and fitness posts like this in the future!
