Have you ever wondered if it really mattered what products you used under your foundation? Or have you ever bought a product that everyone was raving about and hated the way it looked on you? While it is true that not every product is for everyone, have you ever thought that just maybe, “I’m doing it WRONG?!” Well I can tell you that I have! And guess what… I WAS doing it WRONG!

Recently I found myself frustrated with my holy grail foundation. Out of the blue, I felt like it was not performing the way it used to. Throughout the day, I saw my foundation was breaking up and clinging to dry patches of my face. I kept thinking, “What have I changed? Why is it doing this now, when it never did this before?” Then finally it dawned on me! I changed my primer!

After trial and error and LOTS of research, I found it DOES matter what primer you use with your foundation.

Here’s the scoop:

There are basically 2 types of foundations and primers, water-based and silicone based. It’s pretty simple really. If you use a water-based foundation, you need to use a water-based primer. Same goes with silicone based products.DSC_0006

How do you know what type of base it has?

You’ll need to look at the ingredient list to find the answer to that. If you see several ingredients that say -cone, -methicone, or siloxane then you know it is mainly a silicone-based product. If there is one or no ingredients with those words and one of the first ingredients is water, then you know it is water-based!
