It’s around this time of year that I look at my sweater collection and I want to toss it all in the trash! A little dramatic, but I am so tired of wearing wool and knitted fabric. Who else is with me?! Even in this land of palm trees and sunshine, the weather has been slow to warm to ideal Spring weather. But while we are waiting for the weather to cooperate, we can begin by updating our wardrobe. Afterall, the fashion gods have spoken, now that New York Fashion Week is over. And the trends are quite surprising.
Colors to Watch for This Season
Purple
Say goodbye to that typical millennial pink because purple is now having it’s time in the spotlight. Ultra Vilot was dubbed as pantone color of the year, so we will be seeing an awful lot of it from this point forward.
Yellow
It’s time to break out that itsy bitsy tiny weeney yellow poka dot bikini because yellow is a huge color trend to rock this Spring and Summer.
Red
Specifically a monochromatic red outfit is trending right now. We are talking all red head to toe. I am definitely excited to try this trend outside of the Holiday season.
Textures to Try
Sequins
Our glitter tops usually are shoved in the back of our wardrobes only to collect dust until the Holiday season. But this year, the sparkles get to last us all year. Sequins was seen all over the runways during Spring Fashion Week.
Fringe
This is just one of many 70s vibes that was seen throughout the shows. Wear it on your pants, tops, and jackets and you can’t go wrong!
Prints That Are Back
Poka Dots
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this trend, but I am now starting to get used to the idea. I am going to start with a smaller print and break myself into a larger scale. How do you feel about this print being back?
Geometric Prints
Eclectic large prints in bold colors were seen all over New York. And the stranger the better. If you are a girl who loves the bold and bright, this trend is for you!
Checks
This one didn’t surprise me. All shapes and sizes of this print have been seen all over the runways and retail stores. I like the idea of rocking a classic red checkered print in a bikini for beach side fun.
Trends to Skip
Plastic
Yes this is a thing. Plastic looking clothing. Unless you are trying to shield yourself from a rainstorm, I wouldn’t suggest it.
Sheer/Naked Dress
With the exception of a nude beach in Europe, I’d rather you not sport a naked dress in public. I was a little shocked when I saw some of the models prancing down the runway. You have my permission to skip this one as well!
What are your thoughts of the recent trends for the upcoming Spring and Summer? What is your favorite? Can you believe the naked dress?!
