What I’m Wearing
Dress: Old, Similar, Similar // Heels: Louboutin // Bag: Vintage, Similar, Similar
It is funny how when you visit an old place, it often feels like you never left. Everything was as if it had been left on pause and now you have hit play to continue on as if nothing has changed. Visiting Las Vegas this week really feels like we never left at all. My husband keeps asking me if it feels weird to be back. And I continue to answer, “not at all. It feels the same.”
The best part about coming back to our old home is the feeling of peace that I have to know that the part of our lives that was spent here were important. We brought our little Oliver into the world in this city. I smile and thank the memories that I had here and will carry with me forever. But I also have a feeling of gratitude that we have moved on from this chapter of our lives and moved onto other places to call home.
Home can often be so much more than a place that you live. It can be those familiar faces that greet you with open arms. Or perhaps it is a memory of a time when your heart felt the fullest. Even material things, like a fragrance can transmit our minds to a place that we were when we wore the scent in the past. Or maybe when you put on that pair of earrings that your grandmother gave you, you remember her warm embrace.
Sometimes our belongings have the power to give us a feeling of home. Especially when I buy vintage pieces, I think of the lives before me who carried an item and what memories were made with it. Materials that are woven or made of rattan or raffia bring me a sense of home like comfort. Basket bags especially remind me of times of warm days spent on the green grass enjoying a lovely picnic in the summer sunshine.
Find a few accessories to add to your wardrobe that give you a feeling of home. I have linked some of my favorite shoes, handbags, and earrings made from these earthy materials have have me feeling all those homey vibes.
