This weekend on Instagram Stories, I asked all of you if you would be more interested in beauty related content on the blog and not just here and there on Instagram Stories. Almost every single person that voted said, “yes!” So I am kick starting some new beauty content on the blog with a hair care post. In the future, we will shoot the products in the photos as well, but as we already had shot this look I thought we could chat about hair anyway!
First off, your girl has not always been this blonde! I actually had pretty dark brown hair growing up and into adulthood. It wasn’t until college that I got blonde highlights in my hair. Over the following years, I continued to go more and more blonde until I basically couldn’t go any more blonde! But seriously, my blonde ladies know that we are so darn picky about out specific blonde color and are rarely ever satisfied completely. Can I get an amen?!
Being this blonde requires a lot of maintenance and care in order to keep it as healthy as possible throughout the constant hair color and styling. Especially being a blogger, I often style my hair and this of course can cause more damage. I have learned a few tips and discovered a few holy grail products that have really helped me to keep my hair in the best condition possible.
Let’s chat hair products.
When I first moved to Dallas my hair absolutely hated me. It took a while for it to adapt to the new climate and I worked hard with my hair dresser (@clintonterrellhair) to get in back into a healthy state. The first switch that I made was changing my shampoo and conditioner. I started using Oribe and holy heck did it change my hair. It is WAY more than I would have ever justified spending on hair products, but my hair was in rough shape. A more attainable shampoo and conditioner that I like is by Ouai.
If you are blonde and are looking to take that “brassiness” out of your hair, I recommend using a purple shampoo or conditioner. My favorite is this purple conditioner by Pravana. I use it once every week and half to two weeks. If you have more of an ashy blonde color, you will want to use it more often.
Right after I shower, I put on two products and that is it. First, I apply the Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream and then their Balm D’or, which is a heat protectant.
Now let’s chat hair tools.
If I can, I try to have no heat days. That is always the best thing thing that you can do to maintain hair health. But don’t be fooled into thinking throwing your hair in a pony all day is a great strategy either! My hair dresser recommends twisting your hair into a high bun using a silk hair tie or just leaving it down.
But for the those days when I heat style (which is more than I would like to admit), I will use these tools. When I blow dry, I use this T3 travel blow dryer. It was cheaper than the full price option, so I have been using it for years. I started using a round brush over the past few months and love how much more volume that I get! If I need a little extra volume after I am done styling, I will tease the roots of my hair with a teasing comb. As I am sure you have figured out by now, I love my signature curls. I use a T3 single pass curling iron in the 1.25 size. If I do straighten by hair (which is rare) I will use a T3 single pass straighter. P.S I have gotten all of my T3 products on Black Fridays. So make sure to see what sales they have going on as well!
Honestly there is so much more that we could chat about in terms of hair. So let me know if you are interested in more of these types of blog posts! Thanks so very much for stoping by and reading today’s post!
