What I’m Wearing
Dressing for different body types has been a topic that I have found myself highly interested in as of recent. I have propelled myself head first into the discussion and am fascinated how certain details about an article of clothing are more suited for certain body types over others. Simply wearing the right items for YOUR figure can make you appear slimmer, more fashionable, and help you look like your BEST SELF!
This is a topic of conversation that I really want to discussion more often on this space and we are jumping in full force today with the topic of blazers. Although in this specific post, we are chatting about plaid blazers, these tips and suggestions can be applied for all colors and fabrics of blazers. There are certain things to look for in a blazer before purchasing that will indicate if it really is the MOST flattering style for YOU.
I have broken down the key details to look for in each of the following body types: hourglass, pear, apple, rectangle, inverted triangle, and petites. So let’s dive in!
Hourglass Body Shape
Since hourglass figures are already “in portion,” you will just want to accentuate your waist, which is the smallest part of you. Look for blazers that are more tailored and cinch in at the waist area. Peplum and belted styles are great options for your shape.
Pear Body Shape
The goal is to create more volume and dimension on the upper half of your body to balance the lower half of your figure. Look for blazers that have shoulder detailing, shoulder pads, or fun sleeve detailing. This will draw the eye upward. A double breasted blazer will also create the illusion of a bigger chest. The two buttons also flatter your smaller waist.
Apple Body Shape
To balance your upper half with your slim lower half, you will want to create a slimming affect with your blazer. Opt for blazers with one button that hits right under the chest area. Blazers in dark colors that have contours at the waist will also create a slimming affect. Avoid padded shoulders and double breasted blazers. Longer length blazers will elongate the body. Long lapels are great for this as well (think tuxedo blazer).
Rectangle Body Shape
If you are straight up and down with minimal curves, the boxier silhouettes look chic on you. Longer blazers will make you look taller. Roll up the sleeves and leave it unbuttoned for an effortless and edgy look. Look for styles that seem unstructured and easy.
Inverted Triangle Body Shape
If you have wider shoulders and thin legs, you are an inverted triangle. To soften the shoulders, you will want to avoid any kind of padding or structure at the top of the blazer. Opt for softer silhouettes that hang effortlessly off the body. Longer styles are slimming and elongating.
Petite Body Shape
If you are small in frame, the goal is to avoid overwhelming your petite figure. Squared shoulders can make you look out of proportion. The length is the biggest factor to keep in mind. Cropped styled will not overwhelm you. Rounded and soft shoulders are best. Lighter fabrics and less material won’t feel so bulky on your body type.
