When I was pregnant, I was so good about updating you on how pregnancy was going. But since Oliver has been around, I have been the worst with baby updates. And the truth is it has been slightly intentional and not at the same time. Being a working mom, I love soaking up all the time I can with him when I am home. And that means not spending all my time trying to get him to pose for the camera. You would be surprised at how badly I am at taking pictures of my own kid, especially as as blogger. But because taking photos is so much a part of my “job,” I prefer to just spend quality time with him memorizing his every detail.

But I have decided that because being a mom is such a huge aspect of my life, I should share more of its beauty and struggle more often. Especially since many of us have it in common! We can always learn so much from this journey of motherhood from one another. So because of that, I am now starting a new series on my blog called, Mommy Musings. In these posts, I will cover motherhood and baby topics. So as the series progresses, you can search for that topic on the site.

So let’s begin! Little Oliver turned 8 months old on Wednesday! I know that everyone and their mother (haha get it?) says that time just flies. And I always despised it when people would say that to me in passing conversation. As a new mom, the last thing you want to hear is your new sweet little baby is going to be running around as a toddler soon! But in retrospect, it does go by fast! It’s hard to believe my little boy has been outside of the womb for almost the same amount of time as it took to grow him. I have to say having him in the world is a lot more fun than him kicking around in my tummy!

Are you still breastfeeding?

No. I stopped BF last month due to a severe drop in my milk supply. I was just not producing enough and baby was underweight at the last few doctor’s appointments. So my husband and I decided it would be best to switch him over to formula to help him gain weight. We buy the Similac Pro Advanced. I have quickly realized what an expense formula is, so I definitely recommend BF as long as possible!

He is eating real food?

Being a working mom, I was definitely late on the starting solids train. We finally started introducing them at 6 months. I love those little baby food packets because this mom ain’t got time to make her own baby food! We like this brand and this brand

Is he sleeping through the night?

Yes and no. He started sleeping through the night at 4 months old. But last month he went through a spirt of getting up again 1-2 times a night. This week he finally started sleeping through the night again. I have heard this is a pretty common occurrence. I believe it is called sleep regression. Any momma got some tips on this?

What toys does he like playing with now?

I have noticed a huge jump in his interest in toys! Although the two toys he loves the most are mommy’s hair and her phone! But I recently got sent this mat from Kaybaby and he absolutely loves it to roll around on! The Sophia the Giraffe hype is real. He loves his little giraffey. He also loves this little plush construction kit set. My mom got him this dumbbell rattle and he is obsessed with holding it all the time. He loves music, so this Baby Einstein music toy has been amusing for him as well.

What is the nursery like?

I realized I never uploaded any pictures of his entire nursery. We move in two weeks, so I have started packing, but I did shoot a few pictures yesterday so you can get a feeling of what it was like. I wanted something soft and calm. Seeing how it’s the momma bear who spends so much time there in the early months, I wanted it to be a space that was serene for me in the late hours of the night, but also tasteful for a little boy. I also wanted to keep a lot of the furniture more neutral so we can use it again for the next baby, and if it is a girl, just change out the little decor items and bedding. I actually love how it came out. If we weren’t renting, I would have changed out the light fixture and done a couple of other things, but it was great for the space we had to work with.

What is been the most exciting thing so far?

Honestly, every morning when I go to get him out his crib and I see his smiling face, I feel a type of joy I never knew I could feel. Our morning ritual is singing the good morning song from Sining in the Rain. I love that he recognizes the sound my voice as I sing it. He lights up like the 4th of July when I sing it to him first thing in the morning. So I guess the most exciting thing is how well he understands things now. He really knows who momma is and loves spending time with me. It is amazing to have this little person who just wants to be around you.

What has been the most difficult aspect of motherhood?

Mom guilt. 100%. I never thought that I would be someone who would get mom guilt. And I honestly never understood how it was a real thing until after I had him. Especially working outside the home, you can feel this insane pressure to spend every possible moment with your baby while you can. But the reality is you have so many other responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, and even taking time for yourself. It can be so hard to find a mental balance when it comes to balancing that guilt. But the truth is I know that I am an amazing mom who is insane about her baby boy just doing her best to juggle the craziness of every day life. Have any of you found a solution to battling that mom guilt?!

What are your favorite children’s books to read to him?

I may or may not have been addicted to buying children’s books for a hot minute. You have no idea how many books I bought while I was pregnant and even after he was born. But honestly, I don’t regret it. Reading to your child even in the womb can be one of the best things you do for them. Some of my favorites are A Lion in Paris, What Do You Do With An Idea?, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, The Bad Seed, and Oh, the Places You’ll Go
