Next month will be our one year anniversary in our first home. We have taken the decorating process slowly and deliberately. In today’s home reveal, we are taking you into our formal living and dining area. This space is still not finished, but it has come a long way and is at a point where I wanted to share our progress. The last time you would have seen this space would have been in my blog post, Our Antique Dining Room Set Redesign. In that post, I shared the before and after pictures of our dining room table. But we have made a lot of changes to this space since then, so I thought it was time for an update!
These rooms are the first that you walk into in our home, so I knew that I wanted it to be stop worthy. I also waned to have fun in this space and make it more “me.” The other living space is more of a family room area with the tv. Oliver also spends a lot of time in there as opposed to this formal area. So I allowed the feminine and romantic elements of my decor style come into play in this room.
The hero item of this space is definitely this pink velvet couch. I was inspired by some french apartments and noticed that a lot of them took to a dreamy velvet couch. I still cannot believe my husband allowed this. Because the chandelier (which was found at an antique shop) was gold, I decided to play on the gold elements in the art and coffee table. Eventually, I want to get two side chairs (in a nude or off white color) to go on the other side of the coffee table. We have also thought of adding some side tables to the opposite sides of the couch, but because this room flows into the dining space, we haven’t decided if it would be too overwhelming.
The dining room set was a labor of love project. We found the table at an antique store in Plant City, and I had a vision that I knew would transform it. We sanded and painted the chairs white, and my mother in law helped reupholster the chairs. We originally picked up this abstract wall art for above the couch, but we ended up not liking it there. So we decided to throw it on this wall by the dining room set and I love how it turned out to fit the space perfectly! We honestly do not sit here as often as I would like, but it really does make me so happy to spend time in this room and enjoy a lovely meal.
A recent pick up was this gold accent mirror that we put above our entry way table. This table is also an antique find, and still does need some updates. We still need to change out the hardware, and I even think a marble top would look so chic and totally transform this piece. We have also thought of staining it, but it would be difficult with all of the detail work. It doesn’t match the tile in the entry way, but as this is only our first home, we know this piece will not always be contrasted poorly in future homes. Also, as you can see, I really love to decorate with coffee table books throughout my entire home. Let me know if you would be interested in a blog post on my favorite coffee table books!
I hope you enjoyed taking a peak in our home! Let me know if you enjoy these types of home decor posts so that I can do more in the future! Thanks so much for reading.
