With all the heat styling, color treatments, sun exposure, and even hormones, it can be difficult to keep your hair looking healthy. Blondes are especially known for having damaged hair due to all the bleaching. I have never prided myself in having great hair. I don’t have thick voluptuous hair like the women who flip their locks effortlessly in the Garnier commercials! Pregnancy did a number on my hair, making it look dry and brittle. But recently, I feel like my hair has been the healthiest it has been in a long time! Today I am sharing some of the products and steps I have been taking to get my hair in a better state.

1. Washing Less

I know we have all heard that we shouldn’t wash our hair everyday. I used to wash it every other, but recently I switched to every three days. Your hair produces natural oils that are good for your hair. If you over wash, then you may dry it out by not allowing the oils to work their magic.

2. Olapex Treatments

Changing hair colorists has been one of the best things I have done for my hair. She will honestly tell me how much my hair can handle. When I started coming to her, my hair was really damaged. We started using Olapex during coloring treatments to help strengthen the hair and prevent it from breaking due to the bleach. Obviously, the best option is to color your hair less. But if you are like me, and unwilling to go too long without coloring, this treatment will keep your hair strong.

3. Using Effective Products

I am not going to sit here and tell you to heat style less often. It is no secret that doing so will decrease damage. But I would be a hypocrite to tell you to stop! I style my hair a lot, so using the right products are key in keeping my hair as healthy as possible. I recently switched up my shampoo and conditioner to the Ouai line. Their whole line is really nice. I especially like using the oil as a finishing product to reduce the appearance of breakage. I have also talked about the invisibobble before on the blog. These hair ties are supposed to reduce hair breakage that can come from tying up your hair too much.

4. Other Tips

Biotin, silk pillow cases, the Wet Brush, and a healthy diet are also known to help keep your hair in good condition. But sometimes you have to fake silky smooth locks! Because my hair still has breakage and fly aways at the top from pregnancy, I often have to use a little hairspray to lock them down. Getting your hair to get back to a healthy state can take a lot of patience. But small decisions will add up and make a big difference in the long run.
