What I’m Wearing
It is no secret that many of our lives took a serious turn with these unforeseen circumstances. With the state of the world, there are many who are anxious, confused, or afraid. But there are also some who might even be relieved to have their schedule slow down just a little. We live in a hustling world. Constantly, “busy” with events, plans, and just STUFF. I find it interesting that I just read the book To Hell with the Hustle just a few weeks prior to the coronavirus pandemic. The book discusses how we have made busyness almost a “god” in itself. We even compare people, giving them a certain value based upon how many events or things that they have scheduled in their lives. I, myself, have fallen into the trap of loading up my schedule at max capacity, only causing burnout, anxiety and exhaustion.
In my humble opinion, I do think there is a connection to the busyness of our lives to even this season’s flu. We are sick because we are exhausting our bodies. Of course, there is more to it than that. But I do believe that the Lord sometimes allows things to happen so that we can learn and grow from an experience as mankind. And I think the lesson He is trying to teach is to slow down, and be still. I think He is allowing this to happen to draw us nearer to His heart and bring us back to Him.
Whatever your personal belief system is, we can all agree that there is a positive way to look at this situation. If you are blessed with some extra time off, be thankful for this time that was given to you. There are so many who are sacrificing so much for us to keep us safe and healthy. I am so grateful for the healthcare system and even the retail workers who are out there on the battlefield so that we can have our needs taken care of.
So if you do have some extra free time, rejoice! Maybe you finally have the time to do those things that have been on your list for so long! I have rounded up a few ideas to do during this time of social distancing that you might not have thought to do. I hope you find something in this list that will bring you joy!
Create a Vision Board
In so many of the self growth books that I have read, they discuss the power of visualizing your goals and dreams. Simply imagining what it is that we want to achieve can bring us closer to making that reality. So whether you sit down the old fashion way and cut out magazines and paste them on a white board, or use the digital vision board of Pinterest, these are both great ways to make it happen. I have a blog post from a couple of years ago where I walk you through my process of making one.
Write That Book You Have Been Wanting to Write
How many of us have said things like, “oh if I had more time I would do X.” #guiltyascharged
Many of us have advice to offer, stories to create, or experiences to be shared. So sit down and actually WRITE that book you have always wanted to write. I plan on sitting down and writing a bunch of blog posts, including this one, to make sure I have some valuable content ready to go and share with you.
Read the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Organize Your Home
I know that a lot of us are in cleaning mode if you are stuck at home. But take it a step further and actually declutter and get rid of all the STUFF that you don’t need. I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up a few years ago. And although my house if absolutely not perfect, I do think it helped me rethink how I buy things and gave me a lot of freedom in letting go of things that don’t make me happy anymore.
Map Out Your New Diet and Plan for Hiccups
Starting a new diet, or better yet, a new lifestyle of eating can take a lot of energy and time. So take the time to really make a plan of success for this new food journey. Plan meals, prepare for sticky situations, and prepare your food at home. I have been juicing every morning with this extra time in the morning, and I think that is a great way to make my immune system stronger during this time.
Redesign Your Home
How often are we on Pinterest pinning this to our “one day home” board. Well start looking at those pins and create a wishlist or plan for how you can start picking up home decor items to make your vision come to life. Paint a room. Pick up a new piece of furniture. Buy a new painting! We have even been selling a few things off of Facebook Market Place to give us some extra cash to make some of these fun changes.
Commit to a New at Home Workout Program
Gyms and fitness classes are pretty much off the table at this point. So save some money and get an at home work out program, new workout dvd, watch some fitness videos on YouTube or download a work out app! There are so many ways to squeeze in a workout at home now. Working out isn’t really my thing, but I do love to take my little Oliver on a walk to get some activity in, which is also a great idea.
Rewrite or Check in on Your New Years Resolutions or Life Goals
Remember those resolutions and goals from the beginning of the year? Many of us don’t end up making them a priority because time escapes us. So why not check in with yourself and see how you are doing. That might even mean rewriting some of your goals because the year has already made you rethink how you want to plan for the rest of the time left.
I hope that you were able to take a few things from this list and do something that makes you happy and allows you to feel productive. Enjoy this time. And I will be here for you and working on providing you with some content, while we are away from our social norms!
Thanks so much for reading.
