What I’m Wearing
Blazer: Rebecca Taylor // Similar: Topshop // Skirt: Topshop // Heels: Similar // Bag: Similar // Sunglasses: MVMT
Last month, I went back to work full time. And honestly, it has been a difficult transition. But I am finally getting into the swing of a routine again. Along with adjusting to the lifestyle changes, my wardrobe has also needed a bit of an upgrade. I have never needed a “business” wardrobe and realized that I was slightly “in trouble” when it came to dressing for work!
One thing that I knew for sure was that I did not want my work wardrobe to be basic or boring in any sense. While I was looking for some inspiration, I came across some French girl profiles that really inspired me to approach my work clothing choices a little differently. In general, I feel like we tend to look at workwear as unexciting and necessary. But what I loved about these French profiles were that they were able to look chic and trendy while still looking work appropriate. And that is exactly what I wanted. Work wear should be an extension of your personal style, while stilling following the “rules” of the office.
One staple that I saw over and over again was the silk skirt. It was styled in such versatile ways, but I loved the idea of bringing it to the office paired with a classic blazer. I have not always loved blazes, but I was drawn to the peplum detailing of this style by Rebecca Taylor. This grey plaid is such a classic and iconic print that you can feel confident in investing in as it will never go out of style.
Another great way to show your personal flare at work is in your footwear. Especially if your work environment is a little more professional or strict in their uniform, you are usually able to get a little more creative with your shoe choice. These pointed toe black slingback heels are not only comfortable with their low heel height, but also the ultimate French girl shoe.
Combining a dressier item in your closet (like a dress or a skirt) with a more professional item can bring a completely different feel to your typical workwear choices. Often I think we hold ourselves back in our clothing choices because we are afraid of what others in our work environment might think. But I challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone. You might end up discovering a new outfit combination you adore!
I hope you have a productive and lovely work week ahead.
