A new haircut or look can make us feel like a whole new person. Throughout history, women have used their hair as a way of self expression. Bad breakups, new seasons, or a big birthday have often been the initiative that sparked us to make a change. I’m sure most of us can relate to some really bad hair times as well! My little sister was actually texting me embarrassing photo album pictures of me as a child. And it included the cringe worthy striped highlights student picture from 7th grade. She enjoys bringing me back to earth, and I love her for it.

Like most of us, I have been a hair chameleon over the years. Due to the constant coloring and damage that comes with being really blonde, I have been wearing extensions for years now. Clip ins have been my way of adding fullness as they are usually more affordable. But there is the challenge of trying to find the perfect match, constantly taking them in and out, and the pulling off the clips on your hair over time. I have been considering switching to a more permanent method of extensions, and it wasn’t until I moved to Tampa and my new stylist made the suggestion of going the hand-tied route!

What Are Hand-Tied Extensions?

Hand-tied extensions are a method where you add wefts of hair by beading and then hand-tying or (sewing) the wefts into the hair. Andrea put in a total of 8 wefts in the form of two rows.

How Long Do They Last?

Every 8 weeks, the extensions need to be taken out and moved up in the hair. You can use the same hair for about a year if you take good care of the extensions and avoid as much damage as possible.

What Hair Products Do You Use with the Extensions?

You can basically use the exact same products that you use on your hair on the extensions as well. I honestly have not changed my hair routine that much. I do allow my hair to air dry about 80% before I round brush my hair dry.

If you are in the Tampa area, I highly recommend checking out Andrea Suarez as she was so awesome! She also custom colors the hair to guarantee that it is a perfect match with your real hair! I had actually gone in originally to get some hand-tied extensions for fullness and then chop it off! But once we put the hair all the hair in, it was just too pretty to chop off! And I am so happy I didn’t.
