The way our skin looks is dependent upon far more than our skin care regime. Although a great routine can make an impact on your skin, environment and how we treat our entire body can determine how clear our complexion looks. I have not always had good skin. I did not get acne until the later years of college, and it followed me for several years after. After a frustrating period of trial and error, I am very happy with how far my skin has come.
Of course there are days when it is not perfect and I will do something to treat it unkindly like getting little rest or eating too many sweets. But I have put a few practices into my daily routine that make a huge difference in my skin. Clear skin is not something that happens overnight. It takes dedication and maybe even a change in lifestyle. These are the practices that I have implemented into my daily routine that I believe have made a tremendous impact on my skin.
1. Stay Hydrated with Hidrate
I know, I know. You have heard it a million times before. But the last place that hydration shows up is in your skin. Which means if you are dehydrated, your skin is REALLY dehydrated. My husband got me the Hidrate water bottle for Christmas, which has a tracking device inside to monitor how much you are intaking throughout the day. It connects via an app that you download onto your phone. It sends you notifications via your cell and the bottle glows if you are falling behind on your goal. I would have never picked up something like this for myself, but it has been amazing tool making sure I drink enough water!
2. Jade Roll Every Morning
If I miss a wink of sleep or have a little too much wine the night before, it shows up through puffiness the next morning. Investing in a jade roller has been an excellent edition to my skincare routine. I keep it in the freezer, and roll it all over my face in an outward motion after I have applied my skincare. Instantly my face is depuffed and the circulation has come back into my complexion. You can also try a rose quartz roller, which is pink and has similar properties.
3. Eat Your Greens, or Drink Them!
A few years back when I really got serious about clearing my skin, I actually limited meat and dairy and drank green smoothies every day. Nowadays, I don’t always get around to making a smoothie every day, but I have been juicing celery every morning the past 3 days. I am jumping on the celery juice bandwagon and so far I like it! My skin already looks brighter.
4. Switch to Organic Skin Care
Cosmetics and skincare can be filled with all kinds of junk including fragrance, Sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, or even coal tar. Yuck, right?! One of the biggest mistakes that I made in my skin routine a few years back was overwhelming my skin with too many products. Stick to a simple routine with organic products and your skin will thank you! My favorite brand that I have been loyal to for years is Vasseur Skincare.
When it comes to having clear skin, patience is one of the most important things to have in your medicine cabinet. As you change your lifestyle, these simple changes can have a big impact. What practices do you implement daily for good skin? Share your secrets!
