If you are new to the makeup world, the idea of having ten or more makeup brushes may appall you. But if you are a true makeup junkie, you know that the brushes you use to apply your makeup are just as important as the products you put on your face. Makeup is like art. A painter is very particular on the brushes he uses for his painting. Each tool is used to complete a particular stroke or design. The same is true with makeup. The tool that you chose will effect the way the product is distributed. Spoken like a true makeup junkie, you NEED at least a few quality brushes in your makeup collection.

Each brush serves a particular purpose. The bigger the brush, the more product is applied. The smaller the brush, the more precise the application will be. The three types of brushes that I use for both myself and on others are synthetic, natural hair fibers (such as goat hair), and duel fibre. Synthetic brushes do not absorb your makeup product. The product sits at the end of the bristles. I prefer to use synthetic brushes for power products, especially my setting powders, blushes, highlighters, etc. Natural hair fibers are great at holding large amounts of product without getting “trapped” in the bristles of the brush. Duel fibre brushes are made of a blend of goat and synthetic fibres. These types of brushes are great for creating a blend of durability and stiffness. The brush type I chose with makeup application is dependent upon the product I am using.

DSC_17991. Powder Brush(far left in below picture)- This large brush is used to apply a large amount of product to the face. It is used to distribute setting powders/ face powders. Main Use: Loose Power

2. Duel Fibre Brush- Part goat hair and part synthetic fiber, this brush is used to apply a light amount of product. It creates a more natural looking foundation application and is perfect for blending color. Main Use: Foundation

3. Small Powder Brush– This more compact powder brush is perfect for applying blush to the apples of the cheeks and along the cheekbones. It collects the perfect amount of product as it sits on the end of the bristles. Main Use: Blush

4. Tapered Highlighter Brush– This small tapered brush is used specifically for applying highlighter (a shimmery powder product) to the cheekbones, nose, and forehead. Main Use: Highlighter

5. Large Blending Brush– The loose bristles on this small blending brush allow for a perfect eye shadow application in the crease area. It is also used to blend out any harsh edges in your eye shadow. Main Use: Eye Shadow

6. Flat Shader Brush: This flat brush is used to pack on eye shadow color onto the eyelid. Main Use: Eye Shadow

7. Liner Brush– The pointed and slightly hard brush is perfect for creating a smooth liner application. Main Use: Gel Eye Liner

8. Flat Definer Brush: This small and compact brush is used to apply eyeshadow on the lower and upper lash line to create an eye liner effect. Main Use: Eyeshadow DSC_1802

9. Angled Contour Brush: This angled brush is used to apply either bronzer or blush. Its angled shape allows for any manipulation in the contours of your face. The application is less intense than the small powder brush: Main Use: Bronzer

10. Tapered Kabuki Brush: This tapered brush is excellent for precise application of liquid products. It absorbs excess product allowing for a more natural appearance of either foundation or concealer: Main Use: Concealer

13: Flat Top Kabuki Brush: This is my “holy grail” brush. If you only purchase ONE BRUSH than get this one. The denseness of the brush allow for the product to buff into your skin. It creates the most FLAWLESS application of foundation. Main Use: Foundation

14: Small Blending Brush: Like the large blending blush, it is meant to blend out any harsh lines in your eye shadow application. This brush is more dense, which allows for a more precise application in the crease of the eye. Main Use: Eye Shadow

15. Pencil Brush (Not in Picture): The soft and tapered brush allows for a smoked out application of eye shadow. This can be used to apply eye shadow on the lower lash line. Main Use: Eye Shadow

16: Angled Liner or Brow Brush(Not in Picture): This small angled and stiff brush allows for a very precise control of either brush power or eye liner.
