One of the most transformative accessories in a wardrobe is hands down sunglasses. And they can often be one of the most overlooked item! Even a few years ago, I never found myself obsessing over them or even caring too much about them at all. And in retrospect, it was because I didn’t feel like I looked great in any of them. Oh how I would love to smack my former self. How often are we restrained from accomplishing things in our real lives because of these little stories we tell ourselves. Obviously not wearing sunglasses is not a world crisis, but we hold ourselves back in all areas of our life with this type of self talk.

Eventually, I realized that there is a flattering size and shape for everyone. But do you want to know the truth? I actually don’t care if they “fit my face” or look “perfect” anymore. I love the way I feel when I put on a killer pair of sunnies and I don’t think it matters if “so and so” thinks they are too big for me. And you shouldn’t either!

Slowly, I have begun collecting sunglasses in all shapes, sizes, colors, and price ranges. Some of my favorite pairs are literally $5. The famous singer songwriting Tracey Ullman loved them so much that she even wrote a song about them! If you have a few minutes to spare, I highly recommend you watch this hilarious music video on the song Sunglasses that was clearly filmed in the lovely era of the 80s! But here are the chorus lyrics.

Some sunglasses
To hide behind.
Sunglasses
To cry behind.
Sunglasses
To die behind.

A huge source of inspiration for me in my style choices are vintage movies. Those ladies knew how to wear sunnies! Cat eye and oval shapes were all the rage back in the day, so I love playing with those styles. This Elizabeth and James pair is my newest addition to my collection and I love how they instantly make an outfit feel more retro. I wore them today while boating and felt major Italian Riviera and Old Hollywood glamour vibes.

If you are all about adding a touch of vintage to your current style look, then I highly suggest adding a fun pair of retro sunglasses to your ensemble. I added a few of my favorite styles in the carousel below. Which ones are your favorite?
