The “No Makeup” Makeup Look

February 24, 2015

unnamed-3Let’s start out by defining the “no makeup” makeup look! In the beauty world, this phrase is used to refer to a look that is natural. The face appears refreshed, awake, and pretty without the appearance of having a lot of products on the skin. Basically, it is a “better version of yourself.”

There are days when the chaos of life takes over, and we are left with little time to get ready in the morning. The “no makeup” makeup look is a perfect day look that takes minimal effort and time.

Follow these steps to achieve a more polished version of YOU!IMG_0547

*Below are the specific products I used to achieve my “no makeup” makeup look; however, I give many other suggestions throughout the post!DSC_1997

1. Primer– Prep your skin with either a moisturizer or a makeup primer. This allows for a smooth canvas and makes for a more flawless foundation application.

Product Suggestions: Budget Babe- NYX Liquid Illuminator   Glam Gal- Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

2. Foundation– For a natural look, go for BB Creams, Tinted Moisturizers, or light weight foundations. Products with lighter consistency will look like “second skin.” Use a sponge or beauty blender to apply foundation so that it becomes one with the skin.

Product Suggestions: Budget Babe- Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer  Glam Gal- Mac Face and Body Foundation or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

3. Concealer– If you suffer with dark under eye circles, conceal under your eyes first with a peach colored concealer (To learn more on how to combat dark circles CLICK HERE). Then use a concealer the same shade as your foundation over top of the peach colored concealer. Continue to conceal any other face blemishes with a concealer the same color as your foundation.

Product Suggestions- Budget Babe- Maybelline Fit Me Concealer or LA Girl Pro Conceal  Glam Gal- Mac Pro longwear concealer or Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

4. Eye Brows- If your brows are full, just comb throw with a clear brow gel. If you brows need a little extra love (like mine!) use an angled brow brush to fill in sparse areas with a brow powder.

Product Suggestions: Budget Babe- Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara  Glam Gal- Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder

5. Bronzer– To warm up the skin, apply a light layer of bronzer to the temples, under the cheekbones, and down the neck.

Product Suggestions: Budget Babe– NYC Bronzer in Sunny  Glam Gal- Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

6. Cream Blush– Cream products melt into the skin giving a more natural appearance. For a “no makeup” look, I suggest using creams over powders. Apply cream blush to the apples of the cheeks with a light touch of the finger tips.

7. Mascara- To make the eyes appear more awake,  curl the lashes with a lash curler before applying your mascara. Apply mascara from the root to the tip of the lash.

Product Suggestions: Budget Babe- Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara  Glam Gal- Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

8. Lipstick- For this makeup look, I suggest choosing a lip color that mimics the natural color of your lips. For me, it is a pinky nude lip. If you want you can apply a gloss over; however, it will appear that you are wearing makeup.

Product Suggestions:  Budget Babe- Milani Cream D’nude  Glam Gal- Gerard Cosmetics Butter Cup Lipstick

Optional: If time allows in the morning, I also suggest applying a flesh colored eye shadow on the lid and a warm brown color (a bronzer would even work) in the crease of the eye. This brings more dimension to the eye area and makes you look more awake. You can also apply a VERY THIN thin to your top lash line with either a brown or black liner. This will make the lashes appear thicker. Be careful to not make the eyeliner too thick so that it has a more natural appearance.
