Shop the Table
Tablescaping has been something that I have enjoyed since I was a little girl. My mother would always put me in charge of setting and decorating the table for every holiday. I took great pride in my task and pranced about the house, digging in drawers, and climbing up closets to get everything I needed for the perfect table. Ambiance and aesthetics are two things that I take very seriously when creating a mood or themed event. Think about some of your favorite memories. The lighting, smell, and decorations can have a big impact on how we remember occasions.
Setting up a tablescape for a party or holiday event is an important piece of a successful night of entertaining. There are few things to note when you go to set up for your next holiday table.
A Eye-catching Centerpiece
The center piece is always where I start with creating a table mood. It also takes up the most room on the table, so it makes sense to start with this first. You can use props from around your house, pumpkins from your front porch, fresh flowers from the market, a vintage statue, or even a quirky piece. For this table, I chose to use some pumpkins I already had and cut up a bouquet of flowers to stuff between. And to finish it off, I added gold candlesticks on each end.
Choose Linens or Dishware Next
Matching or complimenting the dishes to the linens is the next most important thing for your overall aesthetics. Whether you are using an old set of vintage china or found the perfect pair of napkins at Homegoods, you will want to choose one of these to be the hero. For my table, the plaid napkins were my starting piece. And then I chose a pair of old dishes I already had that complimented the napkins in color scheme, but did not distract the eye too much.
Add a Surprising Detail
What makes tablescaping so much fun is how it all comes together in the end. Adding a unique detail or element that your guests may find amusing, just adds to the whole ambiance. These sweet gold pumpkins actually have clips that could be attached to name cards. Your guests will feel that the whole night is more thoughtful with a simple, but surprising detail.
