I hate to admit it, but I have never been a history lover. It has actually lead to many intense arguments in my household as to why I could not possible adore a conversation surrounding the history of our country. I know that is stems from a few terrible history teachers in my younger years, but the hilarious fact is that as soon as I became interested in fashion my opinion on history changed completely.
I found myself diving into articles and books that could explain the meaning or origin of my favorite closet staples. This is where my obsession for old movies began as fought to satisfy my hunger for learning more on fashion. Who knew that my history teacher from grade school just needed to present the material relating to clothing!
We can’t imagine a wardrobe essentials list without our iconic black leather jacket; however, this closet staple was actually not the fastest catching concept that fashion has ever had. It was originally designed by Irving Schott for Harley Davidson, hence it’s nickname, the biker jacket. The leather jacket was really known as a man’s piece until around the 1950s. This is where our girl Sandy from Greece is dubbed the ultimate cool girl at the end of the movie. But still, many women felt intimated by the fierce nature of the jacket. It wasn’t until the 80s and 90s that the jacket really became a mainstream item that every woman could feel confident to wear. Admittedly, I was even hesitant at one point to wear one, feeling that I might appear as if I was “trying too hard.”
I have really held off on purchasing one for a long time because I knew that I wanted to spend on the real thing. But I also did not want to waste my hard earned cash for something with too much detailing like zippers and belts that might date the jacket in the years to come. IRO Paris is definitely one of the top brands for that iconic jacket. But I have linked my favorite picks at all price points in the widget below. Click the little arrow to see all of the picks!
I am thankful that ladies like Madonna decided to be bold and rock our iconic leather jacket. Because of their daring fashion choices, we can walk freely in our cool girl biker style jacket. Which was your favorite style? Thanks for stoping by!
