Okay so I have a confession…I have become a little bit of a beauty snob. [I figured you wouldn’t be surprised!] I have always been on the picky side when choosing the products in my beauty routine. But now, I am like the skin care police! I guess I just got really tired of spending money on products that don’t work and I decided I wanted to dig a little deeper and find out what ingredients lie in our products. And ladies, ITS SO SCARY!

When you see the word “detox” your mind immediately jumps to diets and ways to quickly get your body back in gear. But recently I have been doing a lot of reading on detoxing other area of your life as well! We are all aware of how certain foods can really mess up our bodies. But we tend to to ignore all those yucky ingredients that are lurking in our beauty products!

Over the past few months, I have found out that some pretty nasty things lie in the products we use to help us look more beautiful. I recently wrote a blog post 5 Skin Care Ingredients to Avoid that you can read for more details. But seriously, how ironic is that?Certain chemicals in our hair, skincare, and even makeup products can be messing up our hormones and affecting our bodies in some pretty serious ways.

I have slowly started to introduce healthier and safer beauty products into my beauty routine. I thought I would share with you a few changes I have made to “Detox My Beauty Routine!”

1. Skip Ammonium in Deodorant

We have heard it before, but ammonium in deodorant has been linked to breast cancer! Yikes! For me, It is totally worth spending a few extra dollars for my under arm scent if it could potentially save my life! I have switched to The Healthy Deodorant in the scent Vanilla Lavender and I am kinda digging it! But be warned because at first you may feel it doesn’t work as well because your body has to adjust to the new formula!

2. Switch to a more Natural Skincare Line

I was a true skincare junkie until I tried Vasseur Skincare, a natural and cruelty-free skincare line. It is also free of synthetic fragrances, toxins, parabens, and chemical preservatives. I really like Vasseur because their ingredients are highly active, so that way you are not sacrificing effectiveness.

3. Buy Sulfate- Free Hair Products

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is the ingredient that makes a lather. It is commonly found in shampoos and body washes. It has been known to cause scalp irritation, hair dryness, split ends, and brittle hair. Read my blog post: 5 Skin Care Ingredients to Avoid to find out more.

4.Use Coconut Oil as a Body Moisturizer

Everyone and their mother knows that coconut oil has many uses. It works as a wonderful toxic-free body moisturizer. Coconut oil actually hydrates the skin unlike other body creams that make you feel moisturized without actually giving the skin lasting moisture.

5. Grapeseed Oil Works as a Makeup Remover

I use Grapeseed oil on a cotton pad to remove my eye makeup at night. Every eye makeup remover I have ever used has made my eyes red and irritated. Grapeseed oil breaks down my eye makeup so easily without irritating my eyes!

Transitioning to a more natural beauty routine can be difficult and take time. I have just tried to start with small changes that could eventually make a lasting difference in my overall health and well being.

What are your thoughts on natural beauty routines?
