What I’m Using
Skincare has been a growing obsession of mine for years now. I had pretty good skin growing up except for those occasional hormonal breakouts. But once my junior year of college hit, I started to get consistent breakouts that took YEARS to get under control. Looking back, I actually think a lot of it had to do with some of the makeup products that I was wearing and well as my diet. But makeup can have some pore clogging ingredients. And even today, I have to be super careful with which items that I allow into my makeup bag.
I have gotten pretty deep in the research of effective products, and I have incorporated many new products into my routine as an attempt to test what actually works! After having tried so many products, I have discovered a few power house ingredients that I have found to actually WORK when incorporated into your skincare routine!
1. Hyaluronic Acid
This skincare must have is an ingredient that is basically a moisture magnet. It can actually retain a 1000 times its weight in moisture. It gives the skin a plump and hydrated look and feel. It works for all skin types and can be applied alone in a serum or can be added into other products for added moisture. Even some makeup brands are starting to add it into foundations to bring more hydration as well!
2. Squalane
“The human body produces its own version of squalane called squalene, but the amount made and retained decreases as you get older,” says Biossance. It is an oil that locks in moisture, improves elasticity, and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles. This ingredient has recently gotten a lot of hype and I have been loving it in my Biossance Moisturizer.
3. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals. It can actually help your body to repair damaged cells. This helps to promote an even skin tone, brightens skins, and reduces dark spots. The only catch is that some sensitive skin types can be a little sensitive to the ingredient and may to opt for a lower concentration. Some brands will cause tiny bumps or breakouts, so I have incorporated mine by using the Biossance Rose Oil + Vitamin C serum that I apply as the last step in my routine.
The great news is that so many brands at all price points are beginning to incorporate these power house ingredients. You are sure to find a few products that are within your price range that you will love!
