What I’m Wearing
During this time at home, many of us have been in the movie binging mood. So what a better time to round up some of my favorite movies for all my fashion loving people! To be honest, I am a little shocked that it has taken me this long to consider writing a post like this. Afterall, I admit that I have watched more old movies than I can even count. The vintage glamour of old films are one of the major components that I draw from for inspiration. So of course, that means I have indulged in watching more than I probably should!
But I am putting all my movie watching to good use, to share with you the best of the best fashion films to watch for inspiration! I have included some movies from the 2000s and up, 90s, 60s, and 50s. You will see that skipped a few decades, and that is because they are not where I personally draw the most inspiration from fashion. Although there are more movies that I could add to the list, I tried to keep it to the best of the best!
Movies Made in the 2ooos and Up
Emma 2020 (Available Now for at Home Viewing. Check your Smart Tvs)
I was lucky enough to see this in theater right before the social distancing. And oh my gosh the costume and set design are colorful, romantic and fabulous!
Ocean’s 8 2018
Sandra Bullock and several other hot name celebrities rock the screen in fabulous contemporary fashion, while taking over The Met Gala!
The Great Gatsby 2013 with Leonardo DiCaprio
I am sure many of you have seen this one. But oh how I love the 1920s flapper glamour!
Confessions of a Shopaholic 2009
This one is a diamond in the rough with Isa Fisher prancing around New York City buying way more than she should! Also a cute romantic storyline as well.
Sex and the City movie 2008
They definitely went all out in the costume design budget for this movie with these power ladies. Of course, the movie is going to have killer fashion with Carrie Bradshaw as the star!
Marie Antoinette 2006 with Kirsten Dunst
This movie a pastel dream. I adore the romantic elegant palettes of both the set design and the costumes.
The Devil Wears Prada 2006
Do I need to say anything for this? It is a fashion classic.
Movies Made in the 90s
Clueless 1995
Give me all the plaid. We can thank Cher for giving us the chic school girl vibe.
Pulp Fiction 1994
This movie made a classic white button up shirt look sleek, elegant, and sexy. After you watch it, you are sure to run out and find one for yourself.
Pretty Woman 1990
Julia Roberts had so many lovely outfits in this movie. Two of my favorites are the polka dot dress and red gown!
Movies Made in the 60s
Young Girls of Rochefort 1967
A French movie with Catherine Deneuve gives us a vibrant and colorful set with bright and bold sixes fashion in musical form.
Belle de Jour 1967
The plot line of this French film is a little sexual. But Catherine Deneuve’s outfits in this are some of my all time favorites! So it is a must watch just for her chic Parisian style!
Valley of the Dolls 1967
Sharon Tate makes her most memorable appearance with her stunning sixties vibes.
Barefoot in the Park 1967
Jane Fonda is just adorable in this role. I really enjoyed the story, but her outfits are the perfect mixture of casual and chic. She rocks the turtleneck and gold hoops, which would look so chic nowadays as well!
Thoroughly Modern Millie 1967
Julie Andrews plays in this musical role as a country girl looking for a husband. The style is all roaring 20s!
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 1964
Oh the trench coat in this is a classic! Another French musical with Catherine Deneuve, she displays a feminine and colorful wardrobe that is totally swoon worthy.
Sex and the Single Girl 1964
This is such an underrated film with Natalie Wood. Her white satin dress and houndstooth coat in this film are to die for!
Light in the Piazza 1962
Another French film, but this time with Yvette Mimieux, gives me major Reformation vibes. Love the casual summer french and feminine outfits. The story is also super sweet.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s 1961
I mean the LITTLE BLACK DRESS and AUDREY HEPBURN. Enough said.
Movies Made in the 50s
Funny Face 1957
This is actually my favorite Audrey Hepburn movie. I adore how it is set in Paris, and all of the photoshoots and outfits in the movie are just so beautiful! I also have the soundtrack on vinyl as well!
Designing Woman 1957
Another hidden gem, Lauren BaCall is a fashion designer who has a wardrobe to show for it!
High Society 1956
All of the Grace Kelly films have fabulous fashion, but this film just has extra glamorous costumes.
Rear Window 1954
Grace Kelly has so many exquisite dresses in this movie. But it is actually her handbag/overnight bag that has gotten the most buzz. Marc Cross designed it and you can still get one that looks exactly like it today!
The Last Time I Saw Paris 1954
Elizabeth Taylor has a yellow dress in this movie that will make you reconsider your neutral only wardrobe!
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 1953
Marilyn Monroe sings “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” in her iconic pink gown.
I could honestly include so many more! If you need any more recommends feel free to comment or message me on Instagram! Happy weekend!
