Girl, I can’t even tell you how many beauty related mistakes I have made over the years. And for whatever reason, they always seem to happen right before important dates or events! #justmyluck. I think a big reason I have failed so many times in this area is that I try to cram too many appointments before the special occasion, that I leave no room or time for mistakes. I have done it all. Dark self tanner, bad hair coloring, picking at breakouts, nail breaks, etc. But I am hoping that my many mistakes can save you from a few of your own.
I was especially inspired to write this post because it is getting close to wedding, prom, and shower season! We sometimes put a little extra pressure on ourselves to look good during this time of year, so I thought I would share my tips to make your life a little easier! P.S if you are a bride to be, I actually wore this dress for my rehearsal dinner and I wanted an excuse to pull it out of my closet again!
Hair Coloring/ Hair Cuts
1. Don’t try a new style or color before a big event. Stick to what you know looks good. Now is not the time to take risks.
2. Do schedule your appointment at least a week to a week and a half before your occasion. I can’t tell you how many times I scheduled my appointment too close to the event, only to have a terrible hair color with no time to fix it.
Nails
3. Don’t do nail art or any crazy colors before the event, unless it calls for it due to the occasion. Also do not try a new salon or nail lady.
4. Do go for something classic and simple. Stick to your regular nail girl, if you are happy with her.
Body Care
5. Do exfoliate and shave your legs no earlier than a day or two before.
6. Don’t apply self tanner right before the event. I like to apply mine at least a day or two in advance, just in case I need it to fade a little.
7. Do moisturize like crazy for several days up to your event.
Makeup
8. Do bring a couple of shades of foundation to make sure you have the perfect match. I will sometimes go to my local Sephora and have them make me a few samples to take with me if I am traveling.
9. Do practice your makeup look if you are planning on doing something out of the ordinary.
Skin
10. Don’t get a facial any sooner than two weeks prior to your event. And don’t pick at your face, even if you are tempted! It is always more difficult to cover scabbed skin.
