Every decision we make ultimately comes down to happiness. Think about it. We will deprive ourselves for weeks at a time to loose a few pounds. We may be uncomfortable and frustrated for a period of time, but we will do it because we believe that being thinner will make us happier. Or we will work hard to meet a deadline in hopes of a promotion that will lead to a pay increase. Having more money, we think, will bring us more joy.
We really are pretty simple creatures. Happiness is one of our primary instincts. But interestingly enough, I have seen that so much of time we go for comfortability and effortlessness when it comes to putting things on our bodies each day.
Since I started working from home, I have fallen into the trap of not getting ready each day. Especially with moving and all the work involved, I didn’t see the point in making that extra effort each day. That is until I got fully ready for the first time since I moved. I couldn’t believe how differently I acted throughout the errands and events of my day. I was happier, more motivated, and even more optimistic. That was when I realized that what I put on my body each day, despite my to do list, matters.
This year has not been an easy one on me. There were any days that I felt like wearing nothing but leggings and a sweatshirt. But I chose to love myself by putting something on that made me feel good. Just like going on a diet is not always an easy task, waking up in the morning and putting on a dress may not feel as cozy as loungewear. However, the benefits of going that extra mile will pay off by the way you carry yourself throughout the day.
We all have different personal styles. Some prefer neutrals, others are bold and bright. I love to dress up and look feminine and romantic. But you may feel your best in a classic pair of converse and your favorite pair of ripped denim. My point is life is too short to not dress for happiness. Go that extra mile in the way that feels right for you. You don’t have to wear heels and dresses. Just do you. When you look in the mirror in the morning ask yourself, “do I feel happy in this?” If the answer is yes. Then rock it girl. But if you hesitate, change. Your clothes should enhance you and bring you a little boost of happiness. You deserve it.
I get that fashion isn’t everyone’s passion. But we all want happiness. So when you get dressed in the morning, let that motive help you in determining your outfit of the day. What pieces of clothing makes you the happiest? Share below.
