Dress: Tobi c/o Bag: Tory Burch Heels: Similar
Wedding season is right around the corner! I love weddings. Mostly because it is a fabulous opportunity to be around family and friends, especially those you might not see very often. I don’t have too many weddings to attend this year, but I do know that dressing for such an event can either be really exciting or pretty stressful. We can get caught in the middle of dressing too nice or underdressing, and don’t even get me started on the long hunt for that perfect dress!
I wanted to share my tips today on what really is appropriate for the occasion as well as some general advice on dressing for special events. And when you’re done reading this post, check out my post 10 Dos and Don’ts of Getting Ready for a Big Event.
1. Thoroughly Read the Invitation
This is one of the biggest tips I have in choosing the right dress or outfit. Where is the ceremony taking place? Is it indoors or outdoors? Daytime or evening? Black tie or semi formal? If is on a farm, you obviously won’t want to wear your stiletto heels. And if it is an evening wedding, you might not want to wear your more casual sundress. Take the environment into account when going shopping for that perfect dress.
2. Lace is Always a Good Idea
I am pretty sure every wedding I have attended, I have worn lace in one way or another. It just adds a feminine and romantic touch, which is perfect for such occasion! I like how in this lavender dress, it is just a soft detail that still adds an elegant feel. It is from Tobi.com.
3. Don’t Go Too Busy with Your Print
For weddings, I generally like to wear solid colors. Now, this is in no way a rule. Actually, floral prints can be very beautiful as well. But I just don’t recommend wearing something super bold or loud. You don’t want to draw unnecessary attention. Afterall, we don’t want to steal the thunder from the bride!
4. Accessorize, But Don’t Over Do It!
A nice pair of heels, cute clutch, and a nice pair of earrings are necessary. But now is not the time to pile on your costume jewelry and long beaded necklaces! Sometimes, simple really is better. On the topic of accessorizing, bringing a shawl or light cardigan is always a smart idea. Especially since this dress is spaghetti straps, I would probably wear something over it for the ceremony if it was a more traditional event.
5. Do You!
If you know you don’t look good in orange, don’t wear it! Stick to the styles that are the most flattering on you and your body type. Just because bell sleeves are in style, doesn’t mean you have to wear them. Stay true to your style. The last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable, because it will show. Don’t overthink it. And remember to have fun! Shopping should be fun. Take a couple girlfriends and make a day out of it.
Remember that the most important thing is that you are there to celebrate an amazing love. And I am sure you’ll find that perfect outfit for the occasion! Happy Shopping!
