|Preparation is Victory| 5 Things My Husband Taught Me About Success

Preparation is Victory: What My Husband Has Taught Me About SuccessSuccess comes easier for some than others. Is it because it is in the cards for them? Do people naturally possess those qualities that are deemed for success? Is it completely luck? Or if you just work really hard and put in the time and effort will it be guaranteed?

What My Husband Has Taught Me About SuccessI am a dreamer. I always have been and I probably always will be. I have one of those personalities where I tend to obsess over something for a while, learn everything I possibly can about that topic, and then move onto the next thing. I am embarrassed to say that there
was even a time where I was seriously addicted to purchasing comic books with women super heros [ I know, I was a TOTAL LOSER!]. Because of this, I feel like it has taken me a while to figure out what it is I want to do and exactly how I want to be successful.

My husband is the opposite. He knows what he wants and fights hard for it. I don’t know how but he just magically knows that secret formula to kicking ass in your career. He possesses so much wisdom in finding what it is that you want and working hard for it.

I know this is a bit of a different post for me. But I wanted to get a little personal and share a few things that my husband has taught me on how to be successful.

5 Things My Husband Has Taught Me About Success1. Friendly Chats Will Take You Far.

My husband could talk to a wall. No, seriously, he could. No matter where we go, he is making friends and having friendly conversations with everyone and anyone. We will be checking out at the grocery store, and by time we leave, he knows the person’s whole life story. I am not that way. I would rather put on a huge pair of sunglasses and say nothing after a friendly hello.

Whenever I ask him how he can be so talkative to anyone, he always responds the same. “Hannah, you never know where that person could take you in the future.” Having great contacts in life could provide you with unbelievable and unexpected opportunities. So be friendly to everyone. You never know when your paths could cross again.

2. Say When, Not If

Act as though your future were not some mere possibility. Or something that will only happen if the cards align perfectly. You must envision your future without any hesitation. “When I land that management poison in my company…” “When I get that internship for that fashion magazine…” “When my book is publish, I will feel..”

Our brains are complicated structures. But if know one thing, It is that if you believe it to be true, it will be. So think positively, and believe it can happen!

3. Never Be Satisfied with Where You Are

“Complacency is man’s biggest weakness. It creeps up on us when we least expect it.” Jay Mullings

When we get comfortable, we become hesitant to change. Once we reach our goals, we have to make new ones that will challenge us once more. We should constantly be saying, “How can I improve where I am?” If we possess this type of attitude, we will have no other choice than to be successful.

4. Push Your Limits

Do you run? I mean I’m sure you have at least gone on a brisk walk! When you run, there is a point where you feel like you are too exhausted to go further. If you have been out of the game for a while, you might even feel that way after the first mile. You know that you get tired after that mile. But if on your next run, you push yourself to just go 1.2 miles you will have gone farther than before. Is it a great distance more that your previous workout? No, but slowly over time, you will have expanded your distance.

We must push our limits when it comes to reaching our dreams. We often feel that “that this is all I can do for today.” or “I just need to relax.” But it is when we push through that barrier that we will reach a greater distance. We get one step closer to our ultimate goal.

5. Preparation is Victory

This is my husbands mantra. He says this phrase every morning when he wakes up. When he is exhausted, feeling overworked, and feels like he is running out of steam. “Preparation is victory.” When we are in the trenches, we often feel like we will never get there. We will always be on the road to success, but never arrive. But preparation is the key to victory.

When we take time every day to prepare or work toward our dreams, we are guaranteed a win! People do not win dancing competitions, football games, or run marathons on accident. And we will not obtain success on accident. We must prepare to receive the end result we desire.

Alright Girlbosses, or hey maybe even some Boybosses, let’s get out there make it happen!
