Dark Circles Be Gone!

February 16, 2015

blog-3Lack of sleep, dehydration, genetics, and age all have a factor in creating those dreaded dark under eye circles. When not attended to, they make us appear exhausted, aged, and just plain unflattering! But no fear, concealer is here! With these tips and tricks, you’ll say goodbye to under eye darkness!

1. Prep the Area

The skin around out our eye area is much thinner than the rest of our body. Therefore, it is more prone to damage and dryness. Moisturize the under eyes with a hydrating eye cream. This will also help your concealer to lay better on the skin.

2. Color Correct

Opposite colors on the color wheel cancel each other out. Basically what that means in the makeup world is if you are a woman who struggles with a purple hue under your eyes, then you should choose a yellow toned concealer. A big mistake that women make when color correcting is that they apply it where it is not needed. For example, you may only have a blue/purple tone near the inner corner of the eye, not the entire under eye area. Only apply the color corrector on the area that it is needed. If it is applied where it isn’t necessary, it will only attract more attention to the area.

Once you have color corrected the area, you now may move on to a concealer that matches the color of your foundation, or the rest of your face. This is needed because after color correction, your under eyes will be brighter than the rest of your face. You now want to match the under eyes to the entire complexion. I like to use my fingers to gently pat the concealer under my eyes. This also warms up the product and makes it easier to blend. You can apply the concealer in an upside down triangle shape under your eyes for this step. Here are a few of my favorite concealers.

4. Set

After all that work, you don’t want it to just melt away! Setting the under eye area is a must!

With a small fluffy brush, gently dab some translucent powder under the eyes.

**Remember that sleep and drinking lots of water will also decrease dark circles under the eyes!

I hope you found this helpful in your journey to combat dark circles!
